Work Experience

June 2019 - Present

Junior Specialist

University of California, Davis

I am responsible for specialized research related to plant drought stress responses in USDA scientist Dr. Andrew McElrone’s laboratory.

My responsibilities include utilizing high-resolution X-ray micro-computed tomography at a synchrotron facility (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory) and processing images to visualize plant tissue for drought stress responses. I also have experience with performing gas exchange and water potential measurements in greenhouse, field, and laboratory settings, assisting with strict irrigation management based on data collected from LoggerNet data-loggers, assisting with field campaign physiological measurements at working vineyards during heat wave periods, participating in almond lysimeter trials, and assisting with walnut plant harvest for rootstock phenotyping study.

October 2018 - June 2019

Research Assistant

Washington State University Tree Fruit Research & Extension Center

I was responsible for specialized crop physiology research in Dr. Stefano Musacchi’s laboratory.

My responsibilities included utilizing microscopy to analyze stigma receptivity and ovule viability, performing dry matter assessments, and performing fungal subculture for fruit and leaf inoculations.

May 2018 - August 2018

Research Intern

Holden Forests & Gardens

I was involved in Dr. Juliana Medeiros’ project regarding rhododendron leaf physiology in relation to climate gradients.

My responsibilities included capturing microscopic images to measure anatomical structures via ImageJ, mounting and analyzing slides of leaf cross-sections, and using R to analyze data for the project manuscript.

October 2017 - May 2018

Undergraduate Research Assistant

University of California, Riverside

I was involved in Dr. John Chater’s project studying pomegranate growth and post-harvest quality, as well as working to sequence cultivars’ genome.

My responsibilities included preparing samples of fruit material to test for acid levels, sugar content, and antioxidant activity, digitally photographing specimens, grafting and propagating plants in field, greenhouse, and urban settings for growth experiments, and monitoring pests and plant growth in the greenhouse and field.
